How long do mp3 players tend to last? Mine seems to have kicked the bucket. I had it plugged into the computer to charge, and when I unplugged it, it turned on (which it sometimes does), so I turned it off. Then less than a minute later i tried to turn it back on and nothing happened. Nothing has continued to happen periodically all day, and I'm thinking nothing is all that will ever happen. Woe. I don't think I've even had it all that long; maybe a bit over a year now. Do these things really bite it that fast?

Can I just say? I kind of loved Donna this episode. Which... is surprising to me. I could not stand her in The Runaway Bride, and had mixed feelings towards her in Partners in Crime (ranging from 'ehn, she's kinda funny' to 'oh god stab her with a stabby thing'), but this episode she just really clicked for me. I was sympathetic to her feelings, I agreed with her decisions... I didn't even find her voice annoying. I though she had some really great moments, too; 'don't worry about us' and putting her hand on the volcano detonator, taking responsibility along with the Doctor.
It's looking like series four maybe won't suck!

1. What time did you get up this morning? Get up as in actually out of bed, right? Cos I lazed about for a while. But I caught the second episode of Crossing Jordan on A&E, so I was definitely "up" up before 10.

2. Diamonds or pearls? I'm pretty "meh" on both, really. Can't I have something with more colour in it?

3. What was the last movie you saw? Cloverfield. I was the only person in the theatre, and I was sooooooo sick by the end of it.

4. Where is the most beautiful place you've ever been? Oh, god. I have no idea where it is, but there is this GORGEOUS waterfall I went to once in junior high and the image of it has stayed with me since then. One day I will find it again. A close runner-up would be Kejimkujik National Park. Especially at night. (Although it's not so fun when you're still canoeing out to your island after nightfall. And your flashlights suck. And you can't tell which island is yours. And you end up making camp on a patch of moss, only to discover the next morning that you were maybe a two minute walk from the actual campsite. It's was still right pretty though.)

5. What do you usually have for breakfast? Well, this isn't usual, but the other day I made scrambled eggs. And they didn't burn, or stick to the pot, or taste funny or anything! For me, this is quite an accomplishment.

6. What is your middle name? Marie and Elizabeth

7. What food do you dislike? Onions are the big one, and with everything else it's mostly the texture that I don't like.

8. What is your favorite CD? I don't do "favourites" so much, but probably the ones I've listened to the most recently are: Death Cab For Cutie's Plans, Keren Ann's La Disparation, and Regina Spektor's Begin To Hope.

9. What kind of car do you drive? Strictly a pedestrian, m'self.

10. Favorite sandwich? BLT (especially from Tim's), or clubhouse if I'm at a restaurant.

11. What characteristics do you despise? Arrogance, selfishness, when people are mean to others just cause.

12. Favorite item of clothing? The pink sweater I am currently wearing. I don't wear a lot of pink, but it's just so comfy!

13. If you could go anywhere in the world for a vacation, where would you go? Ireland. And my friend Lola* and I will be going this summer!

14. What color is your bathroom? Um, white, I think. With pretty flower tiles over the bathtub.

15. Favorite brand of clothing? I don't go for brands when I shop. Whatever fits, feels good, and looks good (in that order).

16. Where would you retire? I can't really picture living anywhere but Halifax. It Home to me, nowhere else would be.

17. What was your most memorable birthday? Most of my birthdays during and since high school have been really good, since my friends and I plan really weird things to do for all of our birthdays, like going on a treasure hunt all over the city, solving various riddles in order to find my presents; re-enacting a greek legend on Citadel Hill and the surrounding area; and being blindfolded and led around town and onto a bus out to Herring Cove, through the woods to where my friends had set up a picnic. I don't think I could choose a most memorable.

18. Favorite sport to watch? The only sport I've ever watched (on tv or otherwise) is hockey.

19. Furthest place you are sending this? Australia.

20. Who do you expect to repost this? I'm usually on the tail-end of memes, so probably no one.

31. What is a day on the calendar you are looking forward to? February 29th-ish, when my friend Saurus* will be returning home for a whole week!

41. Favorite soft drink? Coke, or A&W Root Beer.

42. Favorite restaurant? ~~Gah stop making me choose favourites!~~ Actually, this one's pretty easy: Mexico Lindo's, a little place that sells very reasonably priced and very very good Mexican food and is run by a Mexican woman and her Newfie husband.

44. Siblings? One older brother, one younger. I also have a younger cousin I think of almost like a sister.

57. How many keys on your key ring? Okay... key card to get into my apartment building, my front door, laundry room/garbage room, mailbox, mom's place, and my aunt's makes six.

58. How many years at your current job? I started last October.

Just the one, unless you count my first six months when we lived across the harbour in Dartmouth... which is now technically part of Halifax, so I guess you don't count it? And I spent a month in Rome for school-related activities, but I had an apartment and everything.

61. Do you make friends easily? Not really. I'm pretty shy.

62. How many folks will read this? I've no idea. Probably not a lot.

63. Are you happy? There's snow outside, I'm warm and I have a kitten. I'd say I'm pretty good.

One of my oldest and best friends was visiting from Montreal the other day and, as we often do when we are together for any length of time, we decided to rewatch a few episodes of the X-Files. As I had recently purchased season 6 (for only $20! I still can't believe that, really), we decided to watch a bit from that season, including the third episode of the season, "Triangle". You know, the one where Mulder goes out to the ghost ship and ends up back in time, except most of the people he meets look like people he knows in the present? Yeah, that one.

And here's the thing. I knew it was coming. It hasn't really been that long since I last saw this episode (I used to rent them from the library back when they were more like $120 per set), and I have seen this episode a few times now. And yet when the end of the episode came along, with Mulder about to jump off into the ocean, and the "In case I never see you again" smooches, despite all this I STILL SQUEED AND FLAILED LIKE A CRAZY PERSON.

Even though it's been years since I was at all the into the X-Files (although I'm cautiously optimistic about the upcoming movie), even though I'd pretty much lost interest by the end of the series, even though it wasn't even the real Scully he was kissing. I just. I have such a shipper's heart I can't help myself. I feel floaty even just thinking about it.

And luckily for me, my BFF had a similar reaction, so I didn't have to feel too embarrassed.

Oh my fuck, my smoke alarm has been beeping intermittently for the last hour-and-a-half no reason what so fucking ever. It's three o' fucking clock in the morning! And it's not evenly spaced beeps, or anything, either. I timed them. And sometimes there's just two beep and other times there's, like, seven in a row and my building supers are away on vacation and the replacement dude is only available during business hours and IT NEEDS TO BE SLEEP TIME NOW. Fuck.

ETA: And almost fifteen minutes later with no beeping, I am willing to conclude that livejournal is magic. Yay!

You know what I hate? People who come into the store where I work and just wait expectantly. Because obviously I must know what they want by now, right? I mean, okay, sure you come into the store fairly often and always get the same thing, fine. That much about you I can usually remember. But d'ya know how many people come in every weak or every day ~~or every minute~~ and buy the same frakking thing? Many, many people. And d'ya know how much of my rather shoddy memory I want to devote to remembering everyone's orders? Somewhere in the vicinity of NONE AT ALL. God. Do these people not get that I hate my job? And yes, I do remember what some people get, but that's usually because those people are nice and pleasant and talk to me like I'm an actual human being, they don't just stand there with their self-importance fairly oozing off of them and making stupid comments about how they know I can get it if I just try. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Hokay. So, I have a couple of questions of varying importance.

Firstly, how does one add a banner to one's lj? Is this something only paid accounts can do?

Second, um, -ly, is it possible to make a website (such as, for instance, a television network's site that is showing streaming episodes of their shows but only if you happen to be in the States) think that I am in the States? I seem to recall reading once that there was a way to do so, but the specifics of such an undertaking have escaped my memory.

Thirdly, what the hell else was I going to ask? Seriously, I know there was something else I wanted to know. Ah, well, I'm sure it will come to me at some point.

Omgomgomgomgomg!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is SNOWING! Finally!

I don't know if I can convey how excited I am by this. Srsly, if I knew how to do that thing were the text is all sparkly or scrolls across the page, it would be doing that now, but luckily for y'all I do not know how, so you won't be subjected to that. But just, just look at it!

Now, don't get me wrong, I love warm weather. But this year has seemed nigh-apocalyptic in it's lack of winter. I have felt perpetually trapped in September, which is not a place I really like to be. It's mid-January; it should be -10ish, not +4! I-it's just wrong. Seeing the snow just really helps to restore my sense of... cosmic balance? Although it's upsetting the birds something fierce. If you cannot tell, that is a bird on the sidewalk in the picture. Trust me, he's upset. And the birds are causing my kitten to make the weirdest noise ever. It's like a chirping, cricketty noise, and I swear I have never heard a cat make such a sound before. She's very put out that she's not allowed to go eat the birds. Still, I'm happy, and that's all that counts, right?

And I dream one day I'll find...

I'm a bit behind the times with this, but I have never made a picspam before - I almost made one for The Pretender, but I ~~chickened out~~ got too busy with schoolwork - and I wanted to take my time. Hanyway, this was originally inspired by hobviously's picspam of awesome, and was further inspired by bantha_fodder's subsequent picspam. So, onward:

1. This is a picspam.
2. It's skewed towards girls, because girls are really really pretty.
3. Everything that is included was found in my randomly-updated My Pictures folder, so there's some new and some really old.
4. It is not at all dial-up safe.
5. It's incredibly random.
6. EVERYONE should make picspams of awesome, because they make me happy. And, y'know, the world exists to please me.

So, this is Miss Parker. She is made of awesome, and I want to be her when I grow up. I really like pictures of fictional people talking on cell phones (despite the fact that I hate cell phones in RL), and this is one of my favorite shots of Miss P. She just looks so sad and conflict. Mmm, internal conflict.

Whenever I hear Mirah's "Don't Die in Me", I think of Miss Parker and Jarod, which is one of only four songs for which I have made such an association. Here is Miss Parker with Jarod. This is from the time he tied her up in the Everglades, and then later she ended up in a cage. Good times, good times.

This is ~~Professor Lodz~~ Sydney and Broots. They are also made of awesome, and I love how Patrick Bauchau says "hm".

I guess I've gone on about Pretender long enough, so I will end this segment with a last photo of baby!Pretenders. Note Darth Vader in the front there. And I don't know if it's just how they're arranged in this pic, or because I recently brought out my X-files s5 DVDs, or what, but this picture really reminds me of my favorite trio...

Anyway, this is from the ep "Unusual Suspect" which has a guest appearance by Detective John Munch, who apparently has more crossover appearances than any other fictional character. I don't have a picture of him, though :(

Speaking of VM, did you know that occasionally Alona Tal shows up on other shows that I love and has really awesome hair and holds a gun and generally makes me DIE OF GUH? Well, she does. I believe my total of girl crushes has gone up to three.

Eliza Dushku was my first girl crush, and remains foremost in my heart. I still don't understand how that much gorgeous can exist in one person.

And here is my second girl crush, Jewel Staite. Joss Whedon knows how to pick 'em, is what I'm saying.

Although I'm not sure I know what's going on with her hair in this pic. Still, the rest of her's a bit of all right. Incidental, Kaylee is one of the three other characters/pairing which I associate with a particular song.

I'm still holding out hope that Torchwood will be awesome, though.

Pour Deputy Sachs, having to go out with that biatch. But Veronica's manipulation of said biatch was a thing of beauty and hilarity.

Yay for Lamb actually doing the right think! Or so I thought, before my mother had to go and point out that Lamb likes to blackmail people and I really, really hope that's not the reason he did all that, because I was very impressed with his non-evilness.

And was I the only one who though Duncan seemed a bit manipulative or insincere when he told Veronica about the abused kid? I don't know why, but something in his inflection or facial expression made me think at the time that he was either making it all up, or at least hiding something. Hope I'm wrong, because, like with Lamb, I was enjoying the non-evil, actually-cares-about-something-and-is-going-to-take-action Duncan.

And OMG, all the Neptune parents (except Keith and Ms. Navarro even though she's actually a grandparent) are abusive or really, really fucked up. That sucks.

I think that's all I have to say, other than this episode rocked. Rocked my socks, in fact.

So, I was just watching the news with my mother, and they were doing a piece on the new leader of the Parti Québécois. I'd started talking to Mom, so I missed most of the piece, but the last line caught my ear: "...a dog and a house plant were registered, and may have voted." I shit you not. It was about five minutes before I could stop laughing.

My First VM Post. I Feel Proud

I spent most of the day ~~procrastinating~~ trying to finish my essay for Irish class, only to fail miserably. I was thus forced to ask my Prof. for an extension (which I got, yay!), omiting certain truths as to my reasons for needing said extention. Because of this, I was only just now finally able to watch the new VM. And there was much rejoicing.

OMGWallacesinging! That was awesome. Percy Daggs III has a wonderful voice. Wallace and Veronica should do karaoke together sometime. Percy was just generally awesome in this episode. Poor Wallace. I loved how he stopped Veronica from exacting her revenge, but still broke up with Jackie once it was clear that she was, in fact, a complete and utter biatch. But then he had to go and run off with his ~~totalpsychokiller~~ bioDad, so now I am both worried and unhappy. I loved Veronica's message at the end, with the almost crying and the voice breaking and stuff.

I was also impressed with Teddy Dunn's acting in this episode, and I must admit that Duncan is really growing on me (although I had a few issues with him in the last episode). I love that Duncan and Logan are getting back together. The scene from a few episodes ago when Logan was almost crying in the office after their fight really got to me. Just when I start to kind of not like Logan anymore, he goes and gets all sensitive-like. I just want to ..."comfort" him. *gazes vacantly into space for a while*

Let's see. What else?

Oh, the girl's bathroom resuming its role as Veronica's office was just great. I really hope Wallace had noticed V going in there, and that he didn't just assume she spends all here free time in the bathroom.

And when V sent the beetle bug to Sheriff Lamb, all I thought was that's a cool move, and Lamb's an idiot. But when Keith swiped the bug at the end, it kind of hit me that bugging people to get juicy dirt in order to help with your father's election campaign is not quite as justified as bugging an evil head of security to find out why he had your mother run out of town. Even if said bugging of the sherriff's office does provide tantalizing clues for the viewers at home.

I'm too tired to think of anything more. Basically, this episode rocked, and I love VM. The end.
